On April 9, 2020, we received a request from Graziëlla Barendrecht to place her father on OnLeave because he was currently in the Intensive Care Unit due to a Covid-19 infection. Theo was on a ventilator and was fighting for his life. A battle he unfortunately lost. Theo died on April 24, 2020 at the age of 65 from the consequences of Corona.
Theo has been a member of V-Bird since March 22, 2014 and initially flew his flights on VATSIM, then on IVAO, but since 2016 mainly offline.
Theo made a total of 338 flights for the VA with a total number of hours of almost 591. Theo already had hours from another VA and had a total of almost 2462 hours.
Outside of his Flightsimmen, Theo was also a 'mega volunteer'. Theo lived in Spijkenisse and Spijkenissers know Barendrecht because of his commitment to events, for the district and his municipality. For example, he was a volunteer at the 'Het Theelepeltje' cooking club of the Waterland district group. Every Wednesday afternoon he would cook with the children from the neighborhood, on Thursday with the cooking club for people over 55. In addition, Barendrecht was a regular motor coach at events.
Because only a limited number of people were allowed to attend the funeral, friends and acquaintances decided to accompany Theo Barendrecht during his last trip to the cemetery. They formed an honorary hedge on the Markenburgweg, just before the exit to De Ommering cemetery.
Theo left for his final journey on April 24, 2020.
